In a very weird and untimely leak, Koei Tecmo has more or less confirmed the existence of Hyrule Warriors for the Nintendo 3DS. The title, which is a crossover between the Legend of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors franchises, released for Wii U last year, and even got a bit of DLC. You can read my review here (I think the score is missing, but I believe I gave it a 7.1 out of 10).

The leak (or announcement, honestly not sure which) came in the form of a trailer, which you can see here:

There are a few notable additions to the game. First and foremost, Tetra and King Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule (aka the King of Red Lions aka the King of Hyrule) are new playable characters. Both hail from the charming and toony The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker universe. A snippet at the end of the trailer seems to indicate that if you own both the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game, you can transfer these two characters to the Wii U and play them on both.

Another screen hints that all DLC characters will be playable, including Tingle, Midna in human form, Ganon, and Young Link. Another portion of the trailer shows the player switching between three characters in the middle of a fight on the battlefield, a feature that was not included in the Wii U title. This added functionality could entice new players to try the game out.

It’s important to note that the game seems to run quite well on the 3DS. My bet is it’s exclusive to the New 3DS models, but we may ot find out until Nintendo’s presentation next week at E3. Personally, I’m willing to give this title another chance if it’s on a portable console. I think it’ll be more fun to play as a pastime on the train or in small doses. What do you think–will you pick it up? Let us know in the comments!

The end of the video clearly shows the standard 3DS box design and not the new one that Xenoblade had for the New3DS.

  • Nice catch–the more people who can play, the merrier! I figured the sheer number of NPCs would take its toll–hopefully that’s not the case so everyone can get it.
