We Happy Few Hits Kickstarter
If this announcement trailer is anything to be believed, We Happy Few is shaping up to be a creepy and mysterious adventure from Compulsion games:
The game is live on Kickstarter now, and the page promises a haunting procedurally generated world:
“It’s a first-person game, set in a procedurally generated, fully 3D city that you must escape before society collapses around you. But, like any good roguelike, you’re probably going to die a few times before you figure out how it all works.
You will need to learn how to conform and avoid suspicion. You will need to hunt for supplies, and craft the devices and weapons that enable you to make it out of town alive. What do the Wellies approve of you doing? What makes them suspicious? What turns them into a homicidal mob? And is there anyone here who can help you?
Welcome, my friends. It’s another fabulous day in Wellington Wells.”
As a special treat, the Kickstarter page features 15 minutes of pre-alpha gameplay footage, which you can watch here:
The game melds survival with adventure in a terrifyingly suspenseful environment–you have a hunger and thirst meter, and you’ll run into dangerous residents of the village who take more than a few punches before going down. It evokes some of the same exploration elements as Bioshock, in that you can search through any container and loot it for important items. There’s a crafting menu as well. As of now, there are three playable unlikely heroes that you can unlock with repeated play.
We Happy Few will come to PC first, consoles second (though the developer hasn’t specified which), with possible Mac and Linux ports if certain stretch goals are met.
