The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 Trailer Breakdown: Burn, Baby, Burn
Welcome to the 76th Hunger Games!
Mockingjay, the third and final book in the Hunger Games series, didn’t need to be stretched into two films. But it was anyway, because we all paid to see Mockingjay Part 1 and we’re all going to pay to see Mockingjay Part 2 in November. Thankfully, aside from The Hunger Games, the Hunger Games films have actually been pretty good, and this final film should be the same. For Hunger Games fans, the wait until November must be excruciating, especially after the cliffhanger ending of Mockingjay Part 1. Here, then, is something to help with that: the first Mockingjay Part 2 trailer.
Like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, which was mostly the Battle of Hogwarts, Mockingjay Part 2 is going to be all-out war, with Katniss and friends storming the Capitol to overthrow President Snow. The action in the book is certainly large-scale enough to sustain a film, although one hopes the characters don’t get lost amidst the booms and bangs. Speaking of the characters, I’m interested in how Mockingjay Part 2 will handle the love triangle between Katniss, Peeta, and Gail, which has smartly been on the periphery of the previous films, not the center, but will have to be dealt with for good here. And like with Paul Walker and Furious 7, there will be a morbid curiosity in watching scenes featuring Philip Seymour Hoffman, and seeing if there are any noticeable digital doubles or obvious workarounds following the actor’s unfortunate death during filming. Judging from the trailer, the effects look pretty stunning; the series has certainly come a long way from the wolf mutts in The Hunger Games.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 hits theaters on November 20. Get ready, because Lionsgate is likely preparing to go all in with their marketing for it.
