Summer 2015 is big for film, but there will be other films fighting away in the fringes of 2015.  One of the biggest will be Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot, which is being handled by writer/director Josh Trank (of Chronicle fame).  Despite hitting theaters in a little less than a year and a half, we’ve heard little about the film other than the who’s directing it.  Michael B. Jordan’s name has been tossed around in terms of casting but, other than that, it’s been quite.  Until now, of course.

Variety has just posted an article claiming that Fox is looking at the following people to lend their talents to the Fantastic Four reboot.  Here’s who they are:

  • Reed Richards, A.K.A. Mr. Fantastic—Miles Teller, Kit Harrington, and Jack O’Connell
  • Sue Storm, A.K.A. Invisible Woman—Saoirse Ronan, Kate Mara and Margot Robbi
  • Johnny Storm, A.K.A. The Human Torch—Michael B. Jordan
  • Ben Grimm, A.K.A. The Thing—No one.  The role will be played by a spray painted rock.

Interesting list…and by interesting, I mean depressing.  There’s some people I like on here—Miles Teller, Kate Mara, and Michael B. Jordan specifically.  Those are the three who would be best in my mind for the roles, and would make for an interesting superhero team at the very least.  But what really concerns me is the direction they’re taking things in, making all of them younger people instead of 30 year old adults.  Mr. Fantastic especially is a problem for, as much as I like Teller, I simply can’t see a 20something dude known for playing high school characters being a convince-able scientist with a PhD.  Why can’t these four people be older?  What exactly is wrong with that?  Christian Bale was in his 30’s when he tackled Batman Begins, and Robert Downey Jr. was 43 when he did the first Iron Man.  The people up for Mr. Fantastic are all in there 20’s.  There’s just something that irks me about aging down a role that really should go to a more mature character.

We all know who Fox is REALLY saving the role of The Thing for...

I don’t know, what do you guys think?  Am I going overboard on this one?  Will a younger cast help this Fantastic Four reboot?  And of the people on this shortlist, who would you choose to play these characters?  Let us know, as always, in the comments!

I don’t understand why movie studios are always catering to the younger audience when they don’t pay for shit.

They are possibly going for more of the Ultimate Fantastic Four version which is a much younger version.
