With the announcement of three more Spider-Man films a few months back, one thing is becoming vastly apparent about Sony’s Spider-Man plans—like The Avengers and X-Men before it, Sony is trying to aim for a more over arching, huge universe built around its most famous costumed hero. And with that world building might come the appearance of something fans have been waiting decades to see—The Sinister Six, a syndicate built off of some of Spider-Man’s most notorious villains. With the added depth of another movie to this trilogy, could Sony be aiming for a Sinister Six appearance to conclude the series? Chances are, yes.
So obviously the proof is in the pudding, so here’s the full set photo released by Empire earlier today:
So yeah, not really sure how you could possibly hide that one…it’s just a big fucking sign, really. And the idea of The Sinister Six featuring into this strange quadrilogy isn’t a new one—if you’re going to aim for something big and connected in the Spider-Man universe, that’s probably your best bet. The original Sinister Six is composed of Doctor Octopus, Electro, Mysterio, Sandman, Vulture, and Kraven The Hunter, but I would expect that to change with this one. I could potentially see Mysterio, Vulture, and Kraven The Hunter play into the next three films, but something tells me Doc Ock and Sandman will be subbed out for The Lizard, Rhino, or the Green Goblin (who will be either Norman Osborne’s Chris Cooper or Harry Osbourne’s Dane DaHaan. It’s a crapshoot right now, really).
Still, this is relatively exciting news all things considered. I was far from a fan of the first film but, since Spider-Man is one of my favorite superhero’s, I would love to have my mind changed and enjoy a Spider-Man movie again. And giving him a real big threat to face based off of the biggest threats he’s ever faced would certainly be a way to do that. Also, this would pave the way for Mysterio to play the bad guy in one of the next few films, which would be awesome to see on the big screen.
But what say you? Are you looking forward to The Sinister Six playing into this quadrilogy? Let us know in the comments.
