Hugh Jackman Is In Talks to Play Wolverine in X-Men: Days of Future Past, Because Five Times Is Just Not Enough

Well, this was bound to come up.  Following the casting of Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart on Monday for the highly anticipated sequel to X-Men: First Class, it was only a matter of time before Hugh Jackman and his beloved Wolverine joined the fray.  And what do you know; Jackman is indeed in talks to come back for X-Men: Days of Future Pastmarking the sixth time that the actor will play the character.

The Hollywood Reporter got the exclusive on this one, claiming that Jackman is currently “in talks” to reprise his role as Wolverine in X-Men: Days of Future Past.  Following his appearance as the lead in next summer’s The Wolverine, that would make it the sixth time that Jackman has played the character since his introduction in 2000′s X-Men (not counting his two second cameo in First Class, of course).  Which, if anything, certainly points to how much Jackman loves the character.  I honestly can’t think of any other actor so committed to a character in recent memory.

And for what it’s worth, he’s always great in the role.  And I generally like the idea of all the former X-Men returning for the time travel adventures of Days of Future Past.  If Matthew Vaughn was still behind this, it would probably be one of my most anticipated films of the next few years.  But with Bryan Singer replacing him…I’m hesitant   Well I enjoyed Singer’s previous X-Men work for the most part…his recent career doesn’t exactly give me hope that he’ll knock this out of the park in the same way Vaughn would.  Oh well; I guess it’s better him than Brett Ratner, though.  Then I probably wouldn’t care AT ALL about this film…Hugh Jackman casting or not.

Whatever the case, we’ll see if Singer is up to the task when X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters July 18, 2014.
